We do hope this finds you in good health and also excellent spirits!

It has been some time since our last mail out in September, but my how the world has changed!

It has been a most extraordinary year. Understatement I know.

You will no doubt be aware, we were not able to pick our vineyard in 2019. This was due to the southern Tassie bushfires through Feb and March last year.

We were absolutely devastated and struggled to see how we would stay in business 12-24 months down the track.
Luckily some wonderful industry friends, from the north of Tasmania, reached out, allowing us to purchase some of their precious fruit. We have crafted three beautiful wines altogether worthy of the high standards we set for the Chatto label.
We are so pleased to be introducing two very different Single vineyard wines and, for the first time, a multiregional Tasmanian blend.

Planted in 1979 by West Tamar pioneers Marion and Mark Semmens, and now lovingly managed by their winemaker daughter Cynthea, Marion’s Pinot Noir is one of the oldest plantings in Tasmania. A dark berry fruited, brooding and muscular style, Our Marion’s reflects the nature of this wonderful site, and the structure West Tamar Pinot is known for, whilst holding true to the Chatto house style of intensity over concentration, and natural balance. A serious wine for the cellar, or a perfect match for a good steak.

Thanks to the generosity of the team at Pipers Brook, we were able to get a lovely parcel of clone 114 Pinot from the Bird Vineyard. For fans of our single vineyard Seven Inch, Bird displays similar bright and crunchy red fruits, laced with super aromatic spice. Ethereal and racy, with a long sapid finish. A lot of intensity packed into a Lighter bodied frame.

A complex blend of 3 vineyard sites in the north of Tasmania. Thanks to the generosity of wine industry friends we were able to make wine in lieu of our smoke impacted crop in the Huon. Our 2019 Tasmanian blend comes from two vineyards on the West Tamar (inc Marion’s Vineyard) and one from Pipers River (Bird Vineyard)
A complex mix of red and black berry fruits and violets. Lifted ‘five spice’ and savoury notes brought together in a long and multi layered finish.

As you are our friends and supporters, we would like to offer you the first opportunity to secure these new wines at a special price. All prices are per six pack.

Marion’s RRP $390 – Your Price $360*
Bird RRP $390 – Your price $360*
Tasmania RRP $270 – your price $255*
(*plus shipping)

These new wines are due for release June 1, however, we know wine can definitely be useful in these times, so we will ship from right now to mailing list members only. The official launch date is still June 1 and the price will change as of that date.

We know we cannot do what we do without you -  Thankyou. This current global situation has really brought the word community to the fore and we feel it with you, our supporters, as much as we do with our neighbours. This world we live in is huge and tiny all at once...It is a pleasure to share some pleasure amongst it all.

2019 Chatto Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru ….
We will also be in touch later in the year regarding the inaugural Chatto burgundy release for early 2021. The 2019 burgundy harvest was a very fruitful experience in many ways. Highlighted by the opportunity to make a tiny amount of wine for ourselves with huge thanks to Jane Eyre (She is a real person with that name and we totally love her - if you come across any of her wines please do check them out).

2020 Harvest news
With the news that Tassie (like everywhere) was ‘locked down’ we lost our vintage helpers (Jim’s parents, Jane Eyre and Chad Hamilton) We are most fortunate in having the world's best neighbours who came and helped pull us through harvest. We just finished picking on Sunday. We are ecstatic to have the Isle in the winery and although the quantity is lower than we would like the quality is great!

Thank you for your support and well wishes this past year.
Be safe and drink well.

Kind regards,

Daisy and Jim Chatto
